An Avondale man, 51-year-old Morris Gary Hibbitt, has pleaded guilty to the felony charge of sexual abuse of an inmate.

According to the Department of Justice, at the time of the offense, Hibbitt worked as a Security Supervisor for Behavioral Systems Southwest (BSS), a residential reentry center in Phoenix. The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) contracts with BSS to help inmates reenter the community when they complete their prison terms. Inmate wards at BSS remain in official detention and under the custodial authority of the BOP.

On May 21, 2023, while on duty as the Security Supervisor at BSS, Hibbitt sexually abused a female inmate under his supervision.

On September 9, 2024, Chief United States District Judge G. Murray Snow will sentence Hibbitt.
