John Backer, candidate for Pima County Supervisor – District 2, has earned the official endorsement of the Arizona Conference of Police and Sheriffs (AZCOPS). The endorsement is considered significant as it highlights Backer’s commitment to public safety, according to politicos.
AZCOPS, representing thousands of law enforcement professionals across Arizona, is a respected voice in advocating for the rights and interests of police officers and sheriffs. The endorsement is coveted as it given only to candidates that have strong support for law enforcement.

“AZCOPS examines several factors in determining which endorsements are appropriate,” said David Stone, Executive Director of AZCOPS. “We were impressed with your dedication to a positive campaign and your support of law enforcement.”
Backer has been a steadfast supporter of law enforcement, understanding the critical role they play in maintaining public safety. His background includes over 30 years of technology experience and a deep understanding of the needs of law enforcement through his work serving law enforcement customers.
“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of AZCOPS,” said Backer. “Their support underscores my commitment to ensuring that our law enforcement officers have the resources, training, and support they need to keep our communities safe. Together, we can work towards a safer and more prosperous Pima County.”
In addition to his professional background, Backer has a strong record of public service, having served 8 years on the planning and zoning commission and 4 years on the board of adjustment.
As the campaign progresses, Backer says he remains focused on his goals of enhancing public safety, fostering economic development, and improving the quality of life for all residents of District 2.
