On Wednesday, Maricopa County School Superintendent Steve Watson notified voters of the opportunity to learn more about school board candidates on the 2024 General Election ballot. Watson announced the publication of Candidate Statements for the School Board hopefuls across the county.

“In every election we publish information about school board candidates, using their own words, because we’re committed to transparency and encouraging community engagement in our elections. School board races are not always the most high-profile, but they are still extremely important to the future of our neighborhoods and communities,” said Superintendent Watson.
Of 235 candidates seeking a school board seat, 72 will automatically win a seat because only one candidate qualified for the ballot.
Watson hopes that as voters learn the importance of local education leadership, school board elections will be more competitive, with results that accurately reflect input from voters.
“Our largest districts have a lot of competition for these positions, while some of the smaller ones have less,” Watson added. “It can be frustrating for voters to be told they can’t vote in a race because there was only one candidate running for the position.”
During his two terms as the elected County Superintendent, Watson’s office has offered numerous classes and instruction for individuals interested in running for school board.
The General Election will be held on November 5, 2024.
