Phoenix Shooting Leads To Police Pursuit To Marana

A man is in custody after a double shooting in Phoenix resulted in a police pursuit that ended with his arrest.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, just after 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a call of a shooting near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road. When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The two victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police were directed to where the original shooting scene took place nearby. The suspect, who was identified as Luis Lopez Gutierrez, left prior to police arrival.

Phoenix officers located Lopez’s vehicle shortly after the investigation began. Lopez took off from officers, at which time he was tracked southbound on I-10. Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers initiated a traffic stop and Lopez refused to stop.

Lopez was taken into custody near Marana, Arizona, and was taken to the hospital for injuries suffered during the incident. Lopez has since been released and transported back to Phoenix. Lopez was booked on multiple felony charges including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct with a firearm, trespassing, discharging a firearm at a non-residential structure, discharging a firearm at a residential structure, unlawful discharge of a firearm within and into the limits of a municipality, and misconduct involving weapons.
