Arizona Republic Opinion: Arizona attorney general acts like a kingmaker, even in retreat
By Phil Boas

Kris Mayes put on quite a show, even as she backed away from her tough-talking investigation of Donald Trump.

Never will you see retreat wrapped in so much tough talk and chest thumping as Kris Mayes displayed at her Tuesday press scrum.

The Arizona attorney general told state lawmakers they need to “get off their butts” and defend the state’s groundwater.

She suggested fellow Arizona Democrat and political rival Gov. Katie Hobbs is still sitting on her butt on groundwater action.

She dropped notebook binders of the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 on a table and dared the incoming Republican White House to go ahead and try enacting any of its unconstitutional provisions.

Trump won resoundingly. Mayes did not…

… Mayes threatened to investigate Trump because she knew it would make headlines, and she wanted to play kingmaker in the final, harried moments of a national election. Not exactly the role of the Arizona attorney general.

  1. AZ Legislature….DO YOUR JOB. Impeach this spectacularily unqualified political animal immediately. DO IT NOW, before she can do further damage, and you can assert your power to have patiently allowed her enough time to get her act together. That CLEARLY HASN’T HAPPENED.

  2. She needs to be held accountable for every dime of taxpayers money she squandered on her partisan attempt at election interference.
