  1. In early 20th century vernacular, a “jay” was a silly or irresponsible person, hence a jaywalker was silly for crossing the street mid block. 120+ years ago with far fewer cars and people recognized how risky and stupid this was. Darwinism at work?

  2. It always amazes me when I see pedestrians jay walking or standing on busy Phoenix streets. Especially those that stand in the middle lane. Do they think they are safe? I think they all have a death wish. I am sorry this man’s presumed wish was apparently granted.

    • Cause Way back when, First person Hit was Jay… and well from then on got to be known as Jay walking if your gonna do stupid and walk midblock, you take that chance.
