Montenegro Announces Creation Of New House Oversight Committee

Speaker of the House Steve Montenegro

Incoming Speaker of the Arizona House Steve Montenegro announced the committees for the upcoming session, and conservatives appear to be very happy with his choices including the creation of the House Regulatory Oversight Committee.

The Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen are all experienced lawmakers and represent the ideological spectrum of the enlarged GOP caucus.  Many of the positions were announced previously, but today’s list included all the standing committees, statutory committees, and the full list of committee members.

“It is basically a home run for conservatives,” said one Capitol insider, who noted Montenegro didn’t just place allies in top spots like most Speakers do, but that he elevated competitors as well. “The other candidates for Speaker got Chairmanships, and even some of the most offensive members, who campaigned the hardest against him, still ended up as Vice-Chairmen, so he seems to be keeping it professional and not letting it get personal.”

One activist associated with a number of members of the Freedom Caucus seemed surprised by Montenegro’s choices.  “I had been told he [Montenegro] was opposed to the Freedom Caucus and its members, but someone seems to have gotten that one very wrong, because those are pretty good committees for us.”

Several returning lawmakers will be picking up where they left off – with gavels in their hands, including Justin Olson, Jeff Weninger, Tony Rivero, and Walt Blackman.

The full list appears below, and the 1st Regular Session of the 57th Legislature will open on Monday, January 13th.

  1. Sounds like maybe Montenegro likes the old adage, ‘keep your friends close and your enemies closer’. Or not.

  2. Another do nothing Legislature that is totally missing out on its majority status. Unwilling to openly fight the Democrats and the Democrat executives. Unwilling to claim and show the people the moral high ground. Unwilling to to deal with changing the deplorable status of AZ in handling elections and illegal immigration.

  3. Good job! Now impeach corrupt commies, Arizona-destroying Kris Mayes and Katie Hobbs. Every woman should be ashamed that these these America hating clowns got elected.

    • Actually, they didn’t get elected. They were installed. Maricopa county rivals Chicago for corruption.
Yes indeed they need to be impeached but since that year’s ‘selection’ wasn’t secured, I highly doubt after two years of these marxist dupes that anything will be done.
      Except talk.
