Early Morning Phoenix Shooting Leaves One Dead

Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating a shooting that left one man dead after he confronted the shooter with a crowbar.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on April 9, 2025, around 3:30 a.m., officers were called to a shooting in an apartment complex near 12th Street and Maryland Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a man lying in a parking lot with a gunshot wound. The fire department responded and transported the man to the hospital. The victim received medical treatment but later died from his injuries. Officers detained a man on scene who told officers he shot the victim.

Detectives believe there was a confrontation between the victim and the shooter just before the shooting occurred. A crowbar was found on scene next to where the victim was found. The shooter was interviewed and later released after detectives consulted with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

The victim’s identity is pending next of kin notification.
