The Pima County Board of Supervisors at its April 15 meeting voted 3-0 to appoint Andrés Cano to fill out the term of District 5 Supervisor Adelita S. Grijalva. Grijalva resigned at the April 1 meeting to run for the Congressional District 7 formerly held by her father, U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva.

The Congressman passed away March 13.

Cano, who has been described as a “cog in the Grijalva machine,” was most recently the director of federal and state relations for the City of Tucson under the leadership of Mayor Regina Romero, whose husband was the District Office manager for the late Congressman.

Cano has a long history with District 5. He was born and raised in the District and served from 2012 to 2019 as a senior aide to the late District 5 Supervisor Richard Elías, who was also described as a “cog in the Grijalva machine.”

Cano also spent three years as the director of the LBGTQ+ Alliance Fund and five years as the District 20 representative in the Arizona Legislature.

“I’m honored to be appointed to serve the people of District 5,” Cano said in a press release. “This community has shaped my values and my calling to public service. I step into this role with a clear sense of responsibility—and with a commitment to lead with focus, compassion, and results.”

District 5 is the most urban of the five Pima County Supervisor districts as most of the district’s residents are within the City of Tucson. It encompasses 111.3 square miles, covering the west side south of Ironwood Hills/Grant Road, including Tucson Mountain Park, and extending south to Hermans Road to include the Pascua Yaqui Reservation. It includes midtown between Grant Road and Broadway to Wilmot Road. The eastern boundary south of Broadway is South 12th Avenue past Ajo Way to jog over to South Park Avenue and Nogales Highway.

  1. We need to audit the election center, hound the fat recorder. These people are cheating. I saw two people in front of the tire shop in font of Santa Cruz Church asleep on the sidewalk. Their feet literally in the street. There can’t be a community in America that would vote for people who are that bad at their jobs they have people asleep literally on the street. These people are evil. All of them and they’ve stolen elections to take the community hostage.

  3. Well, well. Missed my guess……thought they would buy off Romero with the BOS seat. And lookie at what the idiots in that district get. A career liberal who hates this country, loves him some LBGQRST+++ and ILLEGALS as much as the Grijalva machine. Wonder who Romero pissed off?

  4. The Pima County Board of Stupids will continue to punish the population until they are economically brought to their knees and commit their lives to Communism and serving illegal aliens. Tucson/Pima County – the dump too far left to thrive. Has an investigation ever been done on Grijalva Realty?

    • Perhaps that constituency deserves this if they not smart enough to realise what happens to them.

    • I take back what I said except I had no idea who this guy is. I now see that his resume fits right into the corrupt liberal bastion of AZ…Pima County!

  5. “cog in the Grijalva machine”. No idea who this guy is but if that is authentic, then all the more power to him!
