Driver Flees After Striking and Killing Man On Phoenix Sidewalk

Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating a fatal hit and run collision that happened near 2500 West Grand Avenue.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, just before 1:00 a.m., on May 23, 2025, officers were called to a pedestrian related crash near 2500 West Grand Avenue. As officers got to the area, they found the victim identified as 21-year-old Christian Lopez-Kitelinger suffering from critical injuries. Phoenix Fire took Lopez-Kitelinger to the hospital in critical condition. Treatment at the hospital continued until May 25, 2025, when Lopez-Kitelinger died as a result of his injuries.

Detectives responded to the scene of the collision and learned Lopez-Kitelinger was walking on the east sidewalk when a northwest bound vehicle drove off the roadway and struck him. The unknown driver of the vehicle was seen stopping and getting out immediately after the collision. The driver was then seen getting back into his vehicle and drove off north westbound on Grand Avenue.

Investigators are asking the community to call into Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS with any information concerning this incident. All tips called into Silent Witness will remain anonymous and information leading to an arrest will be eligible for a $2,000 reward.
