On Monday, May 26th, 2025, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of an assault at a private residence in New River. While on scene, deputies observed what appeared to be puppies who were emaciated and unfed.

A resident at the scene stated there was no money for food to feed the dogs. Deputies requested the assistance of the Animal Crimes Unit to investigate the apparent animal neglect.

Detectives Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) detectives and a contract veterinarian found puppies, dogs, cats and goats on the property. There was no food observed for the animals on the property. Additionally, it was learned that the home had been sold at auction in March, and the residents had no standing to be on the property.

Detectives seized eight puppies, four dogs, two cats and five goats as evidence of violations of ARS13-2910A1 (cruel neglect).

No arrests have been made at this time.
