Early Thursday morning, a Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a driver for traveling 103 mph on State Route 89A.

Instead of pulling over, the driver slowed to a crawl, leading deputies on an unusual low-speed pursuit while swerving erratically and appearing to record the incident on his phone using a popular social media app. After he increased speed once again, deputies terminated the active pursuit for public safety but maintained visual contact, coordinating with the Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD).

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) deputies and PVPD officers successfully intercepted the vehicle and brought it to a stop. The driver, Luis Perez, 37, was taken into custody without incident.

Perez was arrested for unlawful means of transportation, aggravated DUI, DUI, and open container in a motor vehicle.
