A suspect has been arrested in connection with a homicide that occurred in Guadalupe on the morning of September 22, 2025.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), on September 22, 2025, at approximately 8:36 a.m., dispatch received a 911 call from a female reporting that her boyfriend had shot their Lyft driver while they were being transported to Guadalupe near Calle Bella Vista and Barbarita. Deputies quickly responded to the scene and located the vehicle at 9221 Calle Bella Vista. The driver, 51-year-old John Lucas, was found unresponsive in the front seat and was later pronounced deceased by fire personnel.
Evidence collected at the scene confirmed multiple gunshots had been fired.
Through interviews and investigative leads, detectives identified the suspect involved in the shooting as 29-year-old Angel Lopez. On September 23, 2025, at approximately 9:08 a.m., MCSO District 1 Patrol Deputies observed Lopez in the area of Calle Batou in Guadalupe. Lopez attempted to flee into a residence but was quickly contained by responding units. With the assistance of the MCSO Tactical Operations Unit (SWAT) and Homicide Detectives, Lopez exited the residence under lawful commands and was safely taken into custody.
“This arrest reflects the commitment of our deputies and detectives to protecting the residents of Guadalupe and Maricopa County. Our community’s safety is our top priority, and we will continue to act quickly and decisively against violent crime,” said Sheriff Jerry Sheridan.
Lopez has been booked into jail on one count of First Degree Homicide and one count of Armed Robbery.
