Brnovich Blames “Deep State” for Trump’s Withdrawal of Nomination As Ambassador To Serbia

President Donald Trump has withdrawn the nomination of former Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich to serve as US ambassador to Serbia. Brnovich, who often found himself at odds with the Republican base while in office, blamed the withdrawal on the “Deep State.”

Contrary to Brnovich’s baseless claim, it appears that his appointment was stalled largely due to opposition from forces in Trump’s “MAGA” orbit, who were strongly opposed to the controversial former AG.

Brnovich, who was twice elected Attorney General before seeing his personal ratings suffer and finishing a distant third in the 2022 GOP primary for US Senate, said “as the process dragged on, it became clear that the bureaucrats of the deep state do not want anyone with a political, ethical and religious background like mine to perform ambassador duties in Serbia,”  said Brnovich without evidence according to the Serbian Times.

However, Republican operatives who spoke to the Arizona Daily Independent on condition anonymity, say Brnovich met with strong opposition in Trump’s orbit “because of his political and unethical background.”

The noise around Brnovich’s nomination became too great, according to insiders, that “not even his buddy Sean Hannity could save him from the truth.” Those sources claim that it was upon “Hannity’s recommendation that Brno was even considered after what he did to us in 2020, and besides, who else but a guy who could never run for anything again in his life and is a shitty lawyer would want to be ambassador to Serbia.”

“When everything is considered, I believe that being close to my family and friends in Arizona and finding opportunities to play a more important role at home is the best path for me at this moment,” Brnovich reportedly told the Serbian Times after thanking Trump for giving him a shot if only momentarily.

In 2022, Brnovich claimed his staff had found problems with the 2020 election, in what many perceived to be a bid to win over the base. It didn’t work to his benefit. He finished a distant third in the GOP primary, losing badly to two political newcomers.

Later in 2022, Brnovich alienated the base even more when he ignored calls to “immediately investigate” Katie Hobbs and the Secretary of State’s Office in the wake of allegations that her government agency directed a private company to suppress free speech.

As previously reported in the Arizona Daily Independent:

According to the emails disclosed in court filings, Hobbs’ office asked the Center for Information Security (CIS) to review two tweets posted by an account with 21 followers. Within 30 minutes, CIS tapped Twitter to handle the issue, who promised to “escalate.” Twitter resolved the issue several hours later by removing both tweets.

The coordination between Hobbs and Twitter was revealed in court filings for a case before the Louisiana Western District Court: Missouri v. Biden.

That lawsuit alleged that the federal government violated the First Amendment by coercing or significantly encouraging social media companies to remove or suppress content, particularly concerning topics like the origin of COVID-19 and election integrity.
