A comprehensive investigation by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) into a fatal fentanyl overdose has resulted in manslaughter and narcotics sales charges against the suspected dealer, who has since been confirmed deceased.
The investigation began in April 2024, when YCSO’s Overdose Death Investigator responded to a fatal overdose in Prescott. Over the next year, the investigator worked diligently to trace the source of the drugs and ultimately identified the suspected dealer as 68 year-old Raymond Young, residing in the Los Angeles area.
After reviewing the evidence, the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office presented the case to a Grand Jury. On September 5, 2025, Young was formally indicted on charges of Manslaughter and Sale of Narcotic Drugs, and an arrest warrant was issued three days later.
YCSO detectives coordinated with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and apprehend Young in California. However, before the warrant could be served, YCSO received notification that Young was deceased.
“This case underscores the severity of the fentanyl epidemic and its devastating impact on our community and our nation,” said Yavapai Sheriff David Rhodes. “YCSO remains committed to combating drug trafficking and pursuing justice for victims. We are steadfast in holding accountable anyone who profits from the sale of fentanyl in our communities. We are grateful for the partnership of the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office in securing this indictment.”
