Convicted Phoenix Family Killer Richard Djerf Dies by Lethal Injection

Pursuant to the Arizona Supreme Court’s Warrant of Execution, the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry carried out the execution of murderer Richard Djerf, on Friday, October 17, 2025.

The mode and manner of Djerf’s death was by lethal injection. He was declared deceased at 10:40 a.m. The process went according to plan and without incident.

Arizona Department of Corrections Director Ryan Thornell was present for the execution.

In 1996, Djerf was convicted of four counts of first-degree murder for the 1993 murders of Albert Luna Sr., Patricia Luna, and their two children on Sept. 14, 1993. During the crime, Djerf sexually assaulted Rochelle Luna and slashed her throat; beat Albert Luna Sr. with a baseball bat and stabbed and shot him; and tied Patricia and Damien Luna to chairs before shooting and killing them.

Upon appeal, on May 21, 1998, the Supreme Court of the State of Arizona affirmed the conviction.

  1. The truly sad part about all this is this dirtbag got to live an additional 29 years while the victims families will never see their loved ones again and have to live with that pain.

  2. One has to wonder why it took so long to delete this animal from our society. Maybe we could have some criminal justice reform if our attorney general did her job instead of worrying so much about her friends.

    • Thank a liberal SCOTUS in the early 70’s they tuled the death penalty was cruel and unusual punishment oddly enough converting Manson’s death penalty into life. Then around 1976 they reinstated it with a mandatory appeals process.
