Phoenix Police say 34-year-old Michael Anthony Arredondo was taken into custody by Mexican law enforcement authorities in September in connection with the death of Evin Paulos in 2017.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, Arredondo was taken into custody by Mexican law enforcement authorities following extensive coordination between international and federal partners on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
The following day, on September 26, 2025, Phoenix Police detectives traveled to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office to interview Arredondo. During that interview, he confessed to the fatal stabbing of the 25-year-old Paulos, and to fleeing the country shortly after the incident to evade capture.
Arredondo was extradited to Phoenix on October 15, 2025.
