A Maricopa County 16-year-old, Troy Aguilar-Olmos, has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for assaulting his teen girlfriend.

In March of this year, when he was still 15, Aguilar-Olmos threatened to shoot and kill his girlfriend if she did not come out to talk to him. When she approached him, the defendant strangled her, pointed a gun at her back, and punched her repeatedly. Aguilar-Olmos was later arrested at his parent’s home.

Aguilar-Olmos pleaded guilty to one count of Aggravated Assault, a Class Three Felony and Domestic Violence offense, and one count of Aggravated Assault, a Class Four Felony and Domestic Violence offense.

“What happened to this young woman is heartbreaking. No relationship should ever be marked by fear or violence, no matter the age of the offender,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “Today’s outcome cannot undo the trauma she endured, but it is a step toward justice.”
