The NBA gambling scandal is just the tip of a huge pile of garbage in professional and college sports

The NBA gambling scandal is not just the result of professional (and college) sports recently selling their souls to the gambling industry.  The rot has been in the making for decades.

As the nation has sunk deeper into debt and decadence, spending on bread and circuses (panem et circenses) has skyrocketed.  There is now too much money swirling around in sports, too much socialism in the form of taxpayer-subsidized stadiums, too much hype about mediocrity, and too many thugs being put on pedestals.

Speaking of thugs, a member of my Italian race is alleged to have been a key player in the NBA scandal.  Joseph Lanni, aka “Mommino,” is purported to be a Gambino capo who was part of a multimillion-dollar criminal enterprise of rigged pokes games run by mobsters.  The mobsters allegedly paid NBA notables to be the bait to lure patsies to the games.

Separately, Lanni has pleaded guilty to racketeering in an attempt to take over New York City’s garbage business.
