Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating a collision that left a pedestrian dead.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, around 9:42 p.m., officers responded to the area of 35th Avenue and Roosevelt Street regarding a collision involving an adult male pedestrian. When officers arrived on the scene, they located an adult male, later identified as 45-year-old Mark Joseph Knapp, in critical condition. The Phoenix Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported Mark to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Detectives believe that Mark was walking eastbound in the crosswalk on the north side of the intersection. He was crossing against the light when he was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was traveling northbound on 35th Avenue; however, it did not remain at the scene.

The vehicle was later found just north, unoccupied. Anyone with information is encouraged to call SILENT WITNESS at 480(WITNESS) or 480(TESTIGO).
