After clamoring for weeks to be sworn into office, newly sworn-in Adelita Grijalva cast her vote to keep the federal government shut down, as did her fellow Arizona Democrats Greg Stanton and Yassamin Ansari. The three Democrats failed to keep the record-breaking U.S. government shutdown going on Wednesday night as the House passed its approval of the bipartisan compromise reached a few days earlier in the US Senate.

Republicans Andy Biggs, Eli Crane, David Schweikert, Abe Hamadeh, Juan Ciscomani, and Paul Gosar prevailed, restoring the funding of the federal government.

The measure passed on a minimally bipartisan vote with 6 Democrats voting with Republicans.

The bill will be a huge relief to much of the country that was dealing with cutbacks in air travel, millions of federal employees and military personnel missing paychecks, and countless other consequences that resulted from the shutdown.

Reaction to the vote was swift on social media.
