The Scottsdale City Council has brokered a deal which involves a “major revision” to the residential component of the Axon world headquarters campus in north Scottsdale.
The new plan reduces the overall number of multifamily units from the previously approved 1,882 to 1,200 units.
Under this City Council’s “fix” of the extreme apartments density previously granted, Axon will be capped at 600 apartments maximum. In addition, Axon will be entitled to build 600 condominiums, which will be available for individual purchase.
The Axon site, found near Hayden Road and Loop 101, was approved for approximately 1,900 multifamily units under the prior City Council.
“While I had planned to vote against the proposed MOU at last night’s City Council meeting, which included a total of 1,500 units, we were able to get Axon to reduce the density by another 300 units overall,” stated Scottsdale Mayor Borowsky.
Vice Mayor Adam Kwasman issued a statement on X.com calling the deal a “win-win.”

According to the city, the additional reductions will dramatically reduce the previously approved egregious density, the traffic coming to and from the project, lessen infrastructure strain, and foster better compatibility with surrounding neighborhoods.
“It was a very difficult decision to eliminate the referendum election, which I had urged the council to schedule earlier. However, given the situation that the Arizona Legislature put us in, the referendum election would have been rendered moot in the final analysis, resulting in Axon being entitled to build 1,882 apartment units or more,” Borowsky said.
