An 18-year-old, Emilio Rivera, has been indicted for the alleged murder of his ex-girlfriend as she was sleeping at her Avondale apartment last month.
On November 8, Rivera shot his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend while she slept in her bed in her apartment. He then went into her mother’s bedroom and tried to shoot her, but the gun jammed. Prior to the shooting, Rivera slashed the tires on several cars in the apartment complex’s parking lot, including the victim’s car.
A grand jury indicted Rivera on the following charges:
- one count of First-Degree Murder, a Class One Dangerous Felony Domestic Violence
- one count of Attempt to Commit Second-Degree Murder, a Class Two Dangerous Felony
- one count of Criminal Damage, a Class Five Felony
Rivera is currently being held on a $1,000,000 cash bond. Trial is set for July 2026.
