Nelson’s Triple-Double Average Earns NJCAA and ACCAC Division II Player of the Week

Pima Community College women’s basketball player Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) was unstoppable last week as she helped the Aztecs pick up two ACCAC conference victories during the week of Dec. 7-13.

Nelson, a sophomore guard, was selected NJCAA and ACCAC Division II Player of the Week.

She averaged a triple-double of 14.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 12.0 assists along with 5.0 steals per game as the Aztecs beat South Mountain Community College and Glendale Community College. She shot 38.5 percent (10 for 26) from the field, 50 percent (2-4) from three-point range and 75 percent (6 for 8) from the free throw line.

Nelson has played and started in all 11 games so far this season. She is averaging 8.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

The No. 5 ranked Aztecs hit the road for an ACCAC conference matchup at Scottsdale Community College.
