One of the victims from last week’s Goodwill shooting, Juan Cristobal Flores, has died.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, the 30-year-old died January 1.
Adrian William Orozco, age 40, was arrested without incident near North First Avenue and East Grant Road in connection with the double shooting at the Goodwill located at 7650 East Valencia Road.
The other victim, a female employee at the donation center, remains in the hospital but no longer in critical condition.
The investigation is now being treated as a homicide.
Cristobal was an opera singer who had performed with Arizona Opera and the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.
The family released a statement following the announcement of Juan’s passing:
With profound sorrow and faith, we share that Juan Cristobal Flores has gone to rest in God’s eternal embrace. Juan fought courageously for his life after being shot while working at a Goodwill donation center. He was a gifted opera singer, a servant-hearted soul, and a beloved son, cousin and friend whose light touched so many. His beautiful voice, which brought hope and grace to countless hearts, was silenced by crime-but his spirit will never be silenced. Though our hearts are broken, we trust that Juan is now at peace, surrounded by divine love. We are deeply grateful to everyone who prayed, showed up, and stood with us. We need the continued support of our community to ensure justice is served. We will not rest until that day comes.
Rest in peace Dear Juan. You were such a special soul. I so enjoyed your singing, cheerful smile, and your kind spirit. May your memory be always with us in our hearts and minds.
The parents have good reason to worry about the murderer of their son being prosecuted.
.. so if this is the price of the choice of direction.. maybe a precieved point … a full life lived by the day.

This is profoundly sad; a repeat of what happened to the young father from Alabama, basically a tourist, who was murdered at a Tucson bus stop, by near-decapitation. The City will pay a terrible price for all this senseless violence against the innocent; Karma is on its way and it’s bringing Hell with it.
