Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters on Monday that the 84-year-old mother of NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, Nancy, may have been kidnapped from her home in the Tucson area.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday evening at her residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue, around 9:30 p.m. after family members dropped her off at her home.

A relative of Guthrie’s contacted authorities around noon on Sunday to report her missing after she did not show up for church, according to Nanos.

Sheriff Nanos said that investigators believe that “a crime has been committed,” and at this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will and that includes possible kidnapping or abduction.”

“We believe now, after we processed that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene that we do, in fact, have a crime,” Nanos said. “She did not leave on her own. We know that.”

According to NBC Nightly News, evidence also suggests Nancy Guthrie was harmed as she was being taken, but the extent of her injuries have not been revealed.

In a statement released to NBC’s “Today,” Savannah Guthrie thanked investigators while calling for the public’s help in finding her mother:

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s department at: 520-351-4900.”

  1. “Sheriff Nanos” couldn’t find his a$$ with both hands. I pray for the Guthrie family during this difficult time.

  2. Something similar happened on Tucson’s SE side. An elderly polio victim was abducted from her home and her van was found burning in the Walgreens parking lot. They never found her body and the guy arrested for using her debit card was never convicted of her murder. I pray they find Mancy safe

  3. terrible set of circumstance – will only be worse if is was an ‘illegal ‘immigrant’ having not being deported that did the crime and will be released again… could be – what then? Demonstrate?!!!!

    • It will only be “worse” if the likes of Grijalva, Romero, Nanos, etc. FAIL to acknowledge said person’s legal status especially if it turns out this person(s) are in fact illegal. One would think they would have to finally acknowledge the problems associated with illegal immigration and support the ICE agents if they wanted to maintain any semblance of character!
