It was supposed to be clever, an attack on the new Arizona Republican Party Chairman, but Republicans across Arizona got a chuckle out of a recent fundraising email sent out by the Arizona Democratic Party.
The email reads in part that “Arizona Republicans just elected a new state party chairman. His name is Sergio Arellano, and he says the most important issue facing Arizona is ‘the alarmingly radical Democratic Party.’ Not housing affordability. Not healthcare costs….”
“It is hilarious, because I don’t think they are even aware that Governor Hobbs has been vetoing Republican bills to fix housing affordability, healthcare costs, and all kinds of other stuff,” laughed one Republican activist.
“Why are Democrats choosing to campaign on issues where Katie Hobbs is weakest and where Republicans can point to her obstruction and vetoes?” asked a GOP consultant who is not involved with any candidates for Governor. “It makes no sense to pick the same topics that Republicans want to talk about because the GOP knows it has the advantage there.”
House Speaker Steve Montenegro has been particularly critical of Hobbs’ vetoes, including another recent veto of a bill that included tax relief and help with affordability issues for Arizonans. “Governor Hobbs vetoed an increase to the standard deduction. Hobbs vetoed a deduction for childcare expenses. Hobbs vetoed an increase to the child tax credit. Hobbs vetoed no tax on tips. Hobbs vetoed no tax on overtime. Hobbs vetoed relief for seniors.”
“The Governor admitted swift action was needed. She asked for a bill to be sent quickly. We did exactly that. What she did not do was offer a plan of her own. No bill. No alternative. No solution,” added Montenegro.
Now it looks like Arizona Democrats are going to try to raise money off of the same problems their own Governor Katie Hobbs is responsible for.
