A man is dead after pointing a gun at police officers.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on March 12, 2026, at approximately 2:09 a.m., officers responded to the area of 32nd Street and Paradise Lane for reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they saw a man walking in the roadway who matched the description of one of the involved subjects. As officers got out of their patrol vehicles to contact him, they saw he was armed with a handgun. The man began walking toward the officers and officers gave the man commands to drop his gun. He ignored commands and continued approaching officers while still armed. This is when the officer involved shooting occurred.
The man fell to the ground still holding the gun and pointed it at one of the officers. The officer fired his gun again, striking the man. Officers were then able to safely approach the man and take him into custody. Phoenix Fire personnel transported him to a local hospital where he later died. The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene.
No officers or community members were injured during this incident.
