Another jaywalker has been killed on a Phoenix roadway.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on Monday, June 22, 2026, at around 8:52 p.m., Phoenix Police officers responded to the area of 13800 North 39th Avenue regarding a car/pedestrian collision. Officers arrived and located 67-year-old Santiago Bernardo Ramirez in extremely critical condition. The Phoenix Fire Department responded and transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Detectives believe that Ramirez was crossing Thunderbird Avenue mid-block, not in a crosswalk, when he was fatally struck by an eastbound 2015 Dodge Journey.
The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and was evaluated; however, showed no signs of impairment. Neither speed nor impairment appears to be a factor in this collision, and no charges are being recommended.
