The suspect in a Phoenix homicide, Jeremy Banegas, has been arrested in Tucson.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at around 9:15 a.m., Phoenix Police officers responded to a shooting near 1700 South 2nd Place. An adult male victim was struck by gunfire that came from a passing vehicle. Phoenix Fire transported the victim, later identified as 43-year-old Eddie Carrillo, to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Since the original homicide, detectives have been working diligently on identifying the vehicle, and eventually the suspect.
Interviews with others close to the case led to identifying Banegas’ involvement. After his arrest, Banegas admitted to detectives that he drove to the residence on 2nd Place on the day of the murder looking for another person. At the time, Eddie was in the front yard and approached the vehicle. A struggle ensued during which Banegas shot the victim and fled from the scene.
Banegas was booked into jail on one count each of First-Degree Murder and Discharging a Firearm within City Limits.
