On Thursday, a Blue Alert was issued in connection with the deadly shooting of a Tucson Police Department recruit.

A first-degree murder warrant has been issued for 33-year-old Alex James Barnett in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Carlos Ramirez.

Ramirez, a Tucson Police Department recruit, was found fatally shot at his home Wednesday morning. His 23-year-old fiancée, who works as a Pima County corrections officer, was also shot and hospitalized with injuries authorities said were not life-threatening.

Ramirez was just days away from graduating from the police academy on August 27.

Authorities say Barnett should be considered armed and dangerous. Investigators are also trying to identify two additional men believed to be connected to the case.

Anyone who sees Barnett should not approach him and should call 911 immediately.
