PHOENIX – A highway maintenance crew member working for a local contractor was struck and killed by a vehicle in a work zone along northbound State Route 347 north of Maricopa on Wednesday night, Dec. 16.
Police are asking for the public’s help to track down the suspect(s) involved in the deadly hit-and-run of the Native American man who was working on a roadway resurfacing project in a designated construction zone.
Crews have been sealing pavement cracks in recent weeks during overnight hours in areas between Interstate 10 and Hathaway Avenue.
This is the second highway worker to be killed this year in an Arizona highway work zone. In March, ADOT Incident Response Unit member Frank Dorizio was fatally struck by a vehicle while helping to set up a sign alerting drivers to pavement repairs along I-10 southeast of the Phoenix area.
Dorizio was the first ADOT worker since 1998 to be struck and killed while working along a highway.
