Two Women Busted For Suspected Drug Smuggling

Two women from Barstow, California are in custody after they were caught smuggling drugs in Gila County.

According to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, on August 16, at approximately 8:27 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 87 and the BIA 101 for civil traffic violation. During the investigation, the women consented to have their vehicle searched.

During the search of the vehicle approximately 49,000 M–30 pills laced with suspected fentanyl along with 22 pounds of suspected fentanyl powder was found in a backpack.

The street value of the drugs is approximately $1,533,720.00.

Rosa N. Arias Rosales, age 36, was arrested for transportation of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of a narcotic drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Karina A. Perez Castaneda, age 22, was arrested for transportation of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of a narcotic drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The two women were booked into the Gila County Jail.
