Man Arrested On DUI Charges For Fatal South Phoenix Collision

Phoenix Police Department detectives have arrested a man for DUI charges related to a fatal collision in south Phoenix.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on July 13, 2024, at about 5:42 p.m., officers were called to a collision involving two vehicles near 35th Avenue and Southern. Responding officers got to the scene and found an adult male victim ejected from one of the vehicles and suffering serious injuries. The man was identified as 44-year-old Henry Mandley and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Tragically, Mandley was pronounced deceased earlier this morning on July 14th, 2024.

The vehicle Mandley was in, had been driven by an adult female with two juvenile male passengers, all of whom were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The adult male driver of the SUV responsible for the collision left the scene on foot with an adult male passenger. Both were shortly detained by responding officers nearby. Officers identified 22-year-old Fernando Rodriguez-Sanchez as the driver and noticed signs of impairment.

Detectives learned that Rodriguez-Sanchez was driving east on Southern Avenue and began to pass stopped traffic by driving in the bike lane. He then was seen driving through the red light at 35th Avenue and Southern when he hit the victim’s vehicle which was driving south on 35th Avenue. Rodriguez-Sanchez was processed for DUI and booked into jail for Aggravated assault, endangerment, failure to stay at a fatal collision.
