A new Noble Predictive Insights poll indicates that Arizona votes are now more likely to believe the results of elections than they have been in the last four years.
Greater Confidence In The Results
According to the folks at Noble Predictive insights, there are two factors that have driven this increase in confidence, the predictability of the results and widespread use of mail balloting.
Results Were Close To Predictions
For those who paid attention to pre-election polls, there were no surprises. The results were very close to those predicted by the polls. In fact, another poll by Noble indicates that the percentage of those polled that consider the polls to be accurate is 59%, as opposed to 34% who believe they are not.
Mail Balloting
Despite recent criticisms and loud clamoring by some to get rid of it, voting by mail remains the preferred method by most Arizona voters. This is driven by the fact that a majority of voters, including 55% of Republicans, believe that voting by mail is safe and secure.
More Work Needs To Be Done
The answers to the last question in this poll point to one election area which needs improvement, namely the speed with which results are available to the public. The longer it takes to get results, the more likely that fraud and conspiracy rumors will spread.
A full 52% of voters would like to see a significant reduction in the time it takes to obtain election results.
That issue is already being addressed by the state legislature. On December 11, Senate President Warren Petersen pre-filed Senate Bill SB1011, aimed at reducing the time it takes to obtain election results. Pre-filed bills are not acted upon until the legislature convenes officially I mid-January, and this early filing indicates a solid commitment to the cause.
