
Phoenix Police detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting.
On October 2, 2025, at around 7:55 a.m., officers responded to a home in the area of 5600 South 6th Street regarding an attempt suicide. Details on the call indicated that a man was inside the home making suicidal statements while being in possession of a knife. The man also indicated that he would confront officers if they came to the home.
When officers arrived, they initially, made contact with the caller and other individuals from inside the home. These individuals confirmed the man was suicidal and that he was still in possession of a knife. During this conversation, the made came out of the home and immediately ran at an officer in the street just in front of the home. While running, the man was verbally challenging the officer with a knife in hand and raised above his head. This is when the officer involved shooting occurred.
In total, during this confrontation, two officers fired their duty weapons. In addition, a less lethal pepper ball launcher and a less lethal 40mm launcher were deployed. Neither gained full compliance from the man during the confrontation.
The man suffered at least one gunshot wound and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
