I proudly voted for the Working Families Tax Cut because I was sent to Congress with a clear mandate from the people of Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. My constituents did not send me to Washington to preserve the status quo or to play political games. They sent me to deliver on the America First agenda that President Donald J. Trump laid out during his historic and successful campaign to return to the White House. That is exactly what this legislation does.
For months leading up to its passage, Americans were bombarded by a relentless stream of fear driven narratives, misleading headlines, and outright falsehoods from partisan activists and media outlets. We were told this bill would hurt seniors, gut health care programs, and devastate working families. None of that was true. In reality, the Working Families Tax Cut legislation delivers what working Americans have been demanding for years: meaningful tax relief, stronger economic growth, and policies that put American families ahead of bureaucracies and special interests.
At its core, this legislation delivers the largest middle and working class tax cut in United States history. That is not political spin. It is a measurable fact that will be reflected in the paychecks of millions of Americans, including families right here in Arizona. The bill significantly increases the standard deduction to $23,625 for married couples and $15,750 for single filers, ensuring that working people can keep more of what they earn without navigating complicated tax loopholes.
For a typical American family, this translates into over $10,000 in additional annual take home pay. That is real money that can help parents afford groceries, pay rent or mortgages, cover child care, invest in education, or save for the future. At a time when inflation and rising costs have squeezed household budgets, this kind of relief is not just helpful. It is essential.
The Working Families Tax Cut also provides direct tax relief for retirees, a critical priority for my district, which is home to a large and growing senior population.
After years of watching their purchasing power erode due to inflation during the previous administration, seniors in Arizona deserve stability and respect. This legislation delivers both. It includes a new tax deduction that, when combined with existing provisions, ensures that the average Social Security beneficiary will pay zero federal taxes on their Social Security income. That is a promise kept to the Americans who spent decades working, paying taxes, and contributing to our nation’s prosperity.
Equally important is what this bill does not do. Contrary to the false claims repeated by critics, the legislation includes no cuts to Medicaid and no reductions in Medicare benefits. Instead, it strengthens Medicaid by protecting resources for Americans with disabilities and ensuring that these programs serve those who truly qualify. By cracking down on fraud and abuse in Medicaid and SNAP, the bill safeguards these safety net programs for the most vulnerable while respecting taxpayers who fund them.
This legislation is also about strengthening the broader American economy. It invests in rural communities, expands market access for farmers, and delivers historic support to agricultural families who form the backbone of our food supply and local economies. It aligns with President Trump’s Peace Through Strength doctrine by reinforcing the economic and strategic foundation that underpins American global leadership.
Ultimately, this vote was about honoring the will of the voters who entrusted me with their representation. The people of Arizona’s 8th District wanted economic security, lower taxes, stronger safety nets for those in need, and an end to policies that punish success and undermine growth. The Working Families Tax Cut delivers on all of those priorities.
I am proud to have voted for this legislation because it reflects a simple principle: the government should work for the people, not the other way around. This bill puts American workers, families, seniors, and taxpayers first. That is what the America First agenda is all about, and that is exactly what I will continue fighting for every day in Congress.
