Man Dies While Rappelling at Keyhole Cave in Sedona

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic fall that occurred this on June 13, at Keyhole Cave, located near the Sugarloaf Trailhead in Sedona, which resulted in the death of a climber.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, YCSO deputies responded to a report of a climber who had fallen inside Keyhole Cave. When deputies arrived, they found a male climber in his 50s who had apparently fallen while rappelling to the cave floor. Another climber present at the scene immediately attempted life-saving measures.

The man succumbed to his injuries.

Foul play is not suspected.
