Stepfather Charged With 2001 Murder Of Alissa Turney

PHOENIX – Nearly two decades after her disappearance, Phoenix Police have arrested Michael Turney, for the death of his step-daughter, Alissa Turney.

On May 17, 2001 at about noon, Alissa was last seen at her home in the area of East Bell Road and North 34th Street on the last day of her junior year at Paradise Valley High School. A note reportedly from Alissa was found saying she was running away to California. Se was never seen again.

In 2008, Phoenix Police Missing Persons Unit Cold Case detectives re-evaluated the evidence and 2 detectives in particular have stayed on the case for more than a decade, working to solve the crime.

Michael Turney was arrested on Thursday afternoon in Mesa. He faces 2nd degree murder charges in the death of his step-daughter.
