Hit-And-Run Collision In Phoenix Involving Scooter Leaves Man Dead

A late morning collision near 36th Street and Cambridge in Phoenix has resulted in the death of a man.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on May 20, 2023, just after 10:15 a.m. officers responded to the area of 3600 East Cambridge Avenue regarding a collision involving a Yamaha scooter. When officers arrived, they located 34-year-old Leif Chapin, with serious injuries. Chapin was transported to local hospital but did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The vehicle involved in the collision took off from the scene.

Detectives believe that Chapin was riding his scooter southbound on 36th Street when a vehicle traveling northbound turned left in front of him resulting in the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Witness at 480(WITNESS) or 480(TESTEGO) and provide an anonymous tip. Rewards will be paid for information leading to an arrest in this case.
