On Thursday morning, the Tohono O’odham Police Department lost one of its own, Officer Brian Brown, in the line of duty in the area of the Desert Diamond Casino near Why, Arizona.
Tohono O’odham President Ned Norris issued a statement: “This is a sad day for the Tohono O’odham Nation, and our hearts go out to the family and friends of the fine officer gave his life in the line of duty. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
According to the Department, officers responded to reports of a public disturbance by an armed and erratic driver. During the apprehension, Officer Brown suffered a serious injury and was airlifted to a hospital facility in Phoenix where he was pronounced deceased.
The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by officers with the assistance of US Border Patrol Agents. The suspect is in custody the receiving medical care for injuries.
An investigation is ongoing with the Federal Bureau of investigation.
