Man Arrested For Using Machete To Damage Trump Campaign Signs

Witnesses reported a male suspect running over signs with a vehicle, kicking signs over, and using a machete to damage the signs.

A man who was seen destroying former President Donald Trump’s campaign signs in southwestern Arizona has been arrested.

According to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at approximately 5:55 p.m., multiple reports were received about a man destroying campaign signs in the area of E. 40th Street and S. Foothills Boulevard.

Witnesses reported that the man was running over signs with a vehicle, kicking signs over, and using a machete to damage the signs. Deputies arrived on scene and canvassed the area, but were unable to find anyone matching the description or the vehicle.

Per Arizona Revised Statute 16-1019.A, it is a class 2 misdemeanor for any person to knowingly remove, alter, deface or cover any political sign of any candidate for public office without authorization. Additional charges of trespassing, theft, and/or criminal damage may also be applicable under certain circumstances.
