State representatives honor cities that honor vets

Yesterday, House Speaker Andy Tobin, Representatives Nacy McLain and Doris Goodale spoke in the Mojave County cities of Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City and Kingman. They recognized the three municipalities’ leaders for having taken the initiative to honor the sacrifices made by Arizona veterans of the Vietnam War.

Speaker Tobin stated, “The tragedy of what our soldiers endured during this war was made worse by what many encountered when they returned to a cold welcome home”. He also recognized the municipal leadership saying, “Mayors Nexsen (Lake Havasu City), Salem (Kingman) and Hakim (Bullhead City) have done a great job of honoring those that fought in this pivotal conflict.”

They issued a House Proclamation to each of the mayors the largest cities in the third legislative district. The proclamation read:

“The House of Representatives commends the Cities of Bullhead City, Kingman and Lake Havasu City for observing Vietnam Veterans’ Day on March 29, 2012, honoring those who served their country yet many were denied the respect and gratitude they richly deserved.”

“I’m very proud of the impetus that came from Mojave County and especially from Mayor Hakim (Bullhead City) for having been the initiator of this effort. Since 2008, Mojave County’s three biggest cities have held Vietnam Veterans’ Day on March 29th. It’s an honor to show our gratitude to these veterans as many did not get any thanks when they returned home”, said Goodale.

Representative McLean also expressed her sentiments stating, “The bravery shown by the soldiers of this terrible conflict is deserving of nothing less than our gratitude and honor. I am grateful that I represent a district that lives up to our civilian duty of honoring those that put themselves in harms way for our freedom.”
