Tucson Council votes against corporate personhood

The Tucson City Council declared its support for a 28th amendment to the Constitution which will abolish personhood for corporations, in a unanimous vote. For the purposes of elections, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that corporations have the same free speech rights as individuals.

The city resolution is part of a movement called “Move to Amend.”

City Councilwoman Regina Romero told the public, “It’s very scary to lose our democracy to money and as leaders of the city, we need to take a stand and represent the interests of our citizens.”

Meanwhile, across downtown, Rio Nuevo Board members Alberto Moore, and Jeff Hill were revealing the corrupt acts of city officials in the matter of Rio Nuevo. Moore addressed the corporate and City powers-that-be influence in removing Jody Bain and Rick Grinnell from the Rio Nuevo Board last week.
