Governor says Arizona stands with Sikh community

“It is a tragic and trying time for our Nation as Americans work to understand and cope with senseless violence – this time, an attack that claimed the lives of six innocent people at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek,” Arizona’s Governor Brewer said in a statment released today.

“While we do not yet have all the facts about the mass shooting in Wisconsin, those of us in Arizona have seen the tragic outcome when the Sikh community is targeted due to hate or ignorance. In the difficult days that followed the 9/11 terrorist attacks, one of our own, Balbir Singh Sodhi, of Mesa, was killed by a gunman who mistook Sodhi for a Muslim.

Today, please join me in praying for the victims of this massacre in Wisconsin. The people of Arizona stand with their families and the entire Sikh community as they try to pick up the pieces following this horrendous crime. Finally, please continue to pray for the humanity, love and understanding that will allow our Nation to overcome such heartbreak.”
