The 2012 La Fuente Mariachi Idol is Carissa Corona. Corona won easily with her pure falsetto voice. Daniel Rodriguez took 2nd Place, and 3rd Place went to Juan Miguel Salazar.
The 27 year old mom, had been scheduled to give birth by cesarean on the day of the final, but asked her doctor for a short delay to accommodate her performance. Her doctor agreed and rescheduled delivery of her baby boy the day after her Idol victory.
The 2012 La Fuente’s Mariachi Idol contest was hosted by Genaro Moreno. Moreno is a renowned Mariachi singer in his own right.
Corona was tied with a comedic singer, Juanita Gonzalez, for the distinction of crowd favorite, but won perfect scores from even the most critical judge.
Dinners enjoy authentic Mexican food in a Tucson landmark, while watching performers from far and wide. Contestants came from the United States, Mexico and Cuba.
Each Mariachi Idol contestant is accompanied by Mariachi Estrellas de la Fuente.
