Shooter arrested in Catalina for Oro Valley drive-by

Joshua Stephen Switalski, age 22, the victim in a Thursday night drive-by shooting in Oro Valley has died and a suspect has been arrested, and David Arnoldo Mota, age 21, has been arrested according to the Oro Valley Police Department.

Mr. Switalski was shot just before 8 p.m. while he driving on North Oracle Road. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

According to the police, witnesses reported seeing two vehicles traveling northbound along Oracle Road that appeared to be engaged in a verbal exchange. Mota was driving a pick-up truck, and Mr. Switalski was driving a sedan.

Both drivers had a passenger in their vehicles.

Around the First Avenue vicinity Mota shot at Switalski’s sedan before fleeing the scene. Switalski’s car came to a stop in the emergency lane.

Mota was located by OVPD officers as it approached Hawser Road. Officers detained Mota and his male passenger. OVPD detectives responded to continue the investigation.

Mota was arrested and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center were he faces one count of for First Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the confrontation or shooting to 911, 88-CRIME or 229-4900.
