Ducey Wins, Clean Sweep By Republicans

Arizona voters made their choice for governor clear. They wanted Doug Ducey, not Fred DuVal to lead the state out of the economic nightmare.

Ducey, a successful businessman before entering politics, won handily over lobbyist Democrat Fred DuVal.

Republican Mark Brnovich stomped Felecia Rotellini in the Attorney General’s race. Brnovich had a rocky start, but Rotellini never connected with voters across the mostly red state. Brnovich won easily with 53 percent of the vote.

Republican Michele Reagan won with an unsurprisingly narrow edge over perpetual candidate Democrat Terry Goddard. Goddard, has tried for the governor’s office and failed, but hoped he could get in through the backdoor provided by the secretary of state’s office. Several of Arizona’s governors have entered that office via the secretary of state’s office.

Republican Diane Douglas pulled out a win over Democrat David Garcia. Douglas, popular with parents, and many teachers in the state, was largely ignored by the Republican Party until the final days of the race. Many hope that Douglas’ victory signals an end to Common Core in Arizona.
