McCain vows to save the A-10

Arizona Senator john McCain is vowing to save the A-10, according to the Air Force Times. White the Republicans now in control of the Senate, McCain says that he will not allow the Air Force to scrap the Warthog if he becomes chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

McCain once again praised the low and slow flying A-10 on Thursday. He said there is “no doubt” Congress will stop the Air Force’s plan to eliminate the low and slow flying plane.

Because it flies low and slow, it provides the best Close Air Support (CAS) for ground troops. Because the A-10, known as the Warthog, is not a sexy craft, the Air Force’s top brass.

According to the Air Force Times, McCain pointed to the friendly fire that occurred this past June incident in Afghanistan. In that incident a B-1 bomber mistakenly killed American troops.
