Arizona soldier killed in Afghanistan

wyatt-martinOn Sunday, the Department of Defense announced the death Spc. Wyatt J. Martin, 22, of Mesa, Arizona and Sgt. 1st Class Ramon S. Morris, 37, of New York, New York, who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

The two soldiers died December 12, in Parwan Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when the enemy attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device. These soldiers were assigned to 3rd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Governor Jan Brewer has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset today Monday, December 15, 2014, in honor of Spc. Martin. The governor has ordered that flags also be lowered on the day of his interment, for which services are pending

“Please join me in offering a prayer for Specialist Martin, for his loved ones, and for all the men and women who have risked and given their lives to preserve and protect freedom throughout the world,” said Governor Brewer in a statement released on Sunday.

Spc. Martin attended Skyline High School in Mesa.
